The love of art
was something that emerged in Dean's life as a young child growing up in a
farming community of Lagrange County, Ind.
As a girl Dean used to sit in school classes sketching. In one class, when
students were asked to write an essay on what they wanted to do with their
life, Dean remembers writing "artist".
She has studied under
such artists as Millard Wells, Peggy Merrick, Daniel Greene, Everett Raymond
Kintsler, Ron Riddick and many others, Her paintings hang in numerous individual
and corporate collections through out the United States and she is frequently
commissioned for prestigious art work.
She travels frequently to the Charleston area, where she has served as an
art instructor on Kiawah Island, S.C. and has also taught workshops in the
Southwest. But there is something special about her trips to the southwest.
Not only does she find models among the Indian tribes, but she finds much
to absorb in the colors and light of this arid country.
The artwork that comes
from Dean is recognizable-it doesn't hide in abstract forms.
Dean believes, "Beautiful art is something that heals the soul and frees
the spirit."
